Chinese E-commerce Market to Top Over $18 Trillion RMB in 2015

China's Ministry of Commerce released a scheme to support the development of the country's e-commerce market on November 21, with a market scale projection to exceed $18 trillion RMB (US$2.96 trillion; US$1=$6.0905 RMB) in 2015, as reported by China's Securities Times. According to the forecast, in 2015, China's e-commerce trade value will represent over 10% of the country's overall annual trade value, and more than 10% of the retail sales will come from online shopping. Ten focal areas were highlighted in the scheme, including fostering a healthy development of domestic online retailing, building e-commerce systems for agricultural produce in rural areas, encouraging e-commerce applications in small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthening logistics infrastructure.
